President Klaus Iohannis excludes the left-wing variant of government, stating that he has information according to which the PSD does not negotiate with any party for the formation of a majority, and the Constitution is very clear.
“From my information, PSD does not negotiate with any other party and no other party does not negotiate with PSD, and PSD alone, yes, it got the most votes, but this does not mean that it can issue claims to the government. It is an exaggerated interpretation with which the members of the PSD present themselves in front of the public. The constitution is very clear. If a party wins more than 50% of the seats, it has the right to form the government as it wishes. So the president is obliged to appoint a prime minister of that party. Attention, the person cannot be imposed on the president. (…) In any other case, the President will hold consultations with the political parties and will have full freedom to designate whoever he believes will coagulate the majority for the formation of the government. These things are very clear, they have been discussed several times by CCR, and that PSD narrative that they won the elections to receive the prime minister is false, “said Klaus Iohannis.
