US President-elect Joe Biden promised on Saturday that the United States will return to the Paris Agreement to combat climate change on the first day of his term in the White House, AP reports, according to news.ro.

“The United States will return to the Paris Agreement on the first day of my term as president. I will immediately begin working with my counterparts around the world to do everything possible, including convening the leaders of major economies for a climate summit in my first 100 days in office, ”Biden said.

More than 70 world leaders are participating today in a virtual meeting in search of solutions to reduce emissions, which is being held on the fifth anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Current US President Donald Trump called climate change a hoax and withdrew the United States from the Paris Agreement to Combat Climate Change. The return of the United States to the agreement could be a serious blow to the American economy, which will have to undergo radical changes to reduce polluting emissions.
