The president-elect of the United States of America, Joe Biden, made the first announcement about the composition of his cabinet, CNN and NYT report. Biden has confirmed that Anthony Blinken will be nominated for the position of Secretary of State.
Biden also confirmed appointments to several key positions in the future cabinet. Alejandro Mayorkas will be nominated for the position of Department of State Security (ed. – National Security). If you receive confirmation from the Senate, you will be the first Hispanic to lead this department.
Avril Haines, a former senior CIA official, will lead the national intelligence services, the first woman to hold this position.
John Kerry, a former secretary of state during President Barack Obama’s second term, will serve as special adviser on environmental and climate change issues. Kerry is a supporter of the Paris Climate Accord, a treaty that current President Donald Trump expelled the country from and which Biden promised to rejoin as soon as he takes office.
Jake Sullivan will serve as the National Security Advisor.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield will serve as Ambassador to the United Nations and will be reinstated as Minister.
Biden’s team thus brings together several senior officials who were part of the Obama Administration. The president-elect is ready to announce the names of other extremely important positions in the United States government: a woman could hold the position of secretary of the Treasury for the first time.
