According to a prediction made by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, mortality from COVID-19 could reach 18,665 deaths in Romania by February 1, 2021.
The measurement carried out by IHME is based on the current trend of mortality from coronavirus in Romania.
At best, the use of the disposable mask on a large scale could reduce the number of deaths to 17,435, the IHME graph also shows.
The number of deaths can double in the next 3 months.
From March until now, 6,318 deaths caused by COVID-19 have been recorded in Romania. According to IHME predictions, it is very likely that in the next three months there will be almost twice the number of deaths than the total registered since the start of the pandemic until today.
Regarding the number of daily infections, the average of February 1, in the current projection, would be 5,969 new daily cases.
As for the intensive care capacity of hospitals, this could be exceeded in the next three weeks.
The most dramatic moment could be reached on December 2
Scientists assure that the most dramatic moment could arrive on December 2, when the need for places in Intensive Care could exceed existing resources by almost 40%.
In the first days of winter, at the beginning of December, scientists assure that we will reach the peak of daily infections, with the possibility of 21,000 new cases being reported per day. If the authorities relaxed the existing restrictions, the number of daily infections could exceed 100,000 cases in 24 hours.
Situation alarming in Romania
To date, on October 25, in Romania, 209,648 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID – 19) have been confirmed.
149,741 patients were declared cured. Following nationwide testing, compared to the last report, 3,855 new cases of people infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (COVID – 19) were recorded, cases that had not previously had a positive test.
To date, 6,391 people diagnosed with COVID-19 infection have died.
In specialized health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 10,482. Of these, 828 are hospitalized in ATI. To date, 3,055,989 tests have been processed nationwide. Of these, 19,292 were performed in the last 24 hours, 11,948 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 7,344 on request.
