Restrictions should be tightened in areas that register many cases of coronavirus, and greater testing capacity, especially in localities where few tests are performed, says Radu Țincu, an intensive care physician in the ATI Department of Floreasca Hospital. He cites the example of Great Britain and Germany, which warned that healthcare systems could crash due to too many Covid patients.
Dr Radu Țincu says there is no doubt that the pandemic is in an accelerating phase, especially in the outbreak areas.
“Measures have been implemented in Bucharest, we have to see if we have achieved the expected result. It seems that the results are bad. It will probably be necessary to reinforce the measures, because we must analyze the capacity of the health system to take care of the sick. We need to adapt health policies to the health system, “said radu Țincu on Monday morning, in Digi24.
It is necessary to increase the testing capacity
He says that it is difficult to assess the entire population of Romania, following the Slovakian model, due to the much larger population, 18-20 million in Romania, compared to 5.4 million in Slovakia. But our country needs to increase the number of tests, especially in areas where there is little testing.
“We saw that there is a great difference in tests between areas of the country, there are large cities where many tests are carried out and other localities where few tests are carried out. The difference must be corrected quickly, the tests must be unitary,” said Dr. Țincu, specifying that the real number of cases is 6-10 times higher than the infections detected.
“The solution is extended testing. Areas with little testing need to increase the number of tests.”
Tighter restrictions
The doctor blames the increase in the number of cases for the failure to comply with the imposed restrictions. He says that the measures must be tough and gave the example of other countries.
“The measures were probably not observed in the areas with many cases, so the number increased. I expected tougher measures,” Radu Țincu also showed, giving the example of England or Germany.
“Boris Johnson, Angela Merkel have accepted that their health systems cannot take care of the number of patients. We must have the maturity to accept that the health system will not be able to take care of all the patients,” said Dr. Radu Țincu.
