President Klaus Iohannis convened Parliament today, December 21. The newly elected have already begun to assume their mandates, but their validation is also necessary. The leaders of the parliamentary parties accompanied their colleagues in Parliament on Sunday for the official taking of mandates in the new legislature.
All the elected deputies and senators had to go through the first stage, the bureaucratic one, to assume the new mandate. Each one came with promises for the voters.
“Veterans” promises
“As promised, I will continue to be the voice of the people of Bucharest and across the country, I will join my colleagues in supporting projects that are very beneficial to Romanians. Even if we won the elections, as you have seen, power was divided between the parties that they lost these elections, ”said Gabriela Firea, elected senator of the PSD, former mayor general of the Capital.
When asked if there is still talk of a boycott in PSD groups, Gabriela Firea said that there was no discussion about such a possibility. “Instead, we discussed how we can defend Romanians from abuses of power in parliament,” he added.
Ludovic Orban, an elected MP for the PNL, also appeared in Parliament on Sunday.
When asked what it is like to be in Parliament again (Ludovic Orban did not stand in the 2016 parliamentary elections, no), the Liberal leader said that because “it is a real honor” to be able to represent Romanian citizens for another four years . “In these four years I will do the same things that I have done throughout my public career, I will serve Romanians in good faith, dedication and all professionalism,” promised the former prime minister.
“It was faster, it was less time, with the circuit, showing progress, the effect of USR-Plus in Parliament, it is clear,” shared their impressions and Dan Barna, newly re-elected USRPLUS MP.
“We need a real and structural reform in Romania and in these 4 years we hope to achieve it,” said Claudiu Năsui, also re-elected USRPLUS MP.
“It is a new mandate that we want to use in the interest of the people, with laws that do not change everything overnight, so that people have predictability and also to have a government that changes Romania and people no longer want leave the country, “said Florina Presadă, re-elected USRPLUS senator.
Palace of the Parliament, a tangled building
Some parliamentarians, in their first term, encountered some difficulties with their orientation in the Palace of Parliament.
– How is the orientation of the building?
– For now it is zero, what can I say, for now it was good that there are posters and people to help us, if they were without posters I would not know it, it is the first time that I am not here, confesses Daniel Blaga, elected deputy of the USR – ADDITION.
Members of the AUR party also struggled, but party leader George Simion caught their attention when he appeared, when he took office, wearing a transparent mask.
– How was the first day in Parliament, I saw that you had difficulties in the building, at least your new colleagues? the reporters asked him.
– It is us, we learn and in the end, it is not so complicated, it is a building made by the Romanian people for the Romanian people, answered George Simion.
– Did you have problems entering this Parliament with this mask?
– It is very regulatory, it complies, assured the leader GOLD. Mr. Ciolacu was impressed with our mask and I promised to give him a similar mask as a gift, added George Simion.
