The star of this season is pork, and if you want quality organic meat, you must be willing to take good money out of your pocket.
Unlike other years, pork that comes from animals raised in the traditional system will make Romanians take more money out of their pockets. About a month before Christmas, the price per kilogram live starts at 11 lei.
Romanians will slaughter around a million pigs
In the next period, representatives of large companies in the pig sector anticipate that around 1 million pigs will be slaughtered.
Given this year’s crisis faced by farmers, Romanians who want to handle quality processed meat will get more money out of their pockets than last year.
“In commercial farms, the price has dropped 28% compared to last year, because there is a chain and the pig goes through two more links until the meat reaches the consumer. From a commercial farm the live pig comes out with 5.5 lei / kg, but at the owner’s door the price is double and the trend is increasing. The economic efficiency of a household is lower and, in addition, this year the price of cereals has increased ”, says Ioan Ladoşi, president of the Association of Pig Producers of Romania (APCPR), according to Ziarul Financiar.
Food is getting more and more expensive
Bad news about food. Globally, prices continue to rise in October, the fifth consecutive month in which there have been increases. The announcement was made by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The FAP index measures price changes in a food basket consisting of cereals, vegetable oils, dairy products, meat, and sugar. In October 2020, this index rose to 100.9 points, from a slightly revised value of 97.8 points in September.
According to officials, cereal prices rose 7.2% in October compared to September and 16.5% compared to the same month last year. “This increase was mainly due to wheat prices, amid declining export availability, poor conditions in Argentina and the dry climate that affects winter wheat planting in Europe, North America and the region of the Black Sea, “FAO said.
