Dominic Fritz said on Digi24 on Monday that his election as mayor of Timișoara “definitely ends the post-communist transition in Timișoara and perhaps Romania as well.” He said he will hold talks with PNL about the collaboration, because USR-PLUS only needs one councilor position to have a majority in the City Council.
“This victory, which was clear, more than 53% voted with me, and the USR-PLUS alliance took 40% for the local council. It is a unique victory, which definitely ends the post-communist transition in Timișoara and perhaps also in Romania. I had nothing to do with communism and post-communism, I came for the first time in 2003, then I didn’t speak Romanian. It’s a story that started after finishing high school in Germany, I grew up in a German family with no connection to Romania. I worked in a children’s home for a year, before going to university I wanted to dedicate a year of my life to the underprivileged. I kept coming back to Romania, founded an association, built many cultural projects, got involved in protests in 2017. Since I worked for 10 years in public administration, I wanted to support this change for the better. In the good governance revolution, we want to open up and digitize the administration, which is closer to the people, ”said Dominic Fritz, at Digi24.
He said the green space issue was “definitely a priority in my administration.”
“Now it is a priority to form my team, to make a majority in the council, because we lack one person to have a majority. We will discuss with the people of Timisoara, with the rectors of the university, with the private environment, the health environment, what will be the decisions that must be made. In the first weeks we will put a lot of emphasis on attracting European funds. With the economic crisis that will affect us, we have a great need for investments that add value ”, stressed the elected mayor of Timișoara.
Asked if and how he will collaborate with the NLP locally, he said that “we are going to discuss, we speak with Alin Nica, the future president of CJ, of the NLP, and in the coming days we will discuss with the NLP in what way we will collaborate.” .
Previously, Nicolae Robu told Digi24 that he leaves an easy legacy, and when asked about a difficult legacy, Dominic Fritz said that “unfortunately we have a financial situation that is not necessarily happy, I am waiting with a little anxiety how many bills are unpaid. Colterm has eaten around 100 million euros in recent years from the local budget, we need a new business and technological start-up ”.
Regarding the messages of congratulations he received, he said that he was called by former German President Horst Köhler, of whom he was a personal advisor, but also with Octavian Ursu, the Romanian born in Bucharest and who last year became mayor of the city. German Goerlitz.
When asked if he was congratulated by President Klaus Iohannis, Timisoara’s elected mayor said that “I have not yet received a signal from the president.”
