A brilliant graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest and the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, Ion Predescu will remain in public memory as a leading figure in Romanian legal and political life ” , announces CCR.
Lawyer since 1952, counselor and director of BCAJ Craiova, senator since May 1990, member of the Constitutional Commission of the Constituent Assembly, president of the Senate Legal Commission and Minister of Justice (1996), participated in the drafting of the Romanian Constitution (1991) and laws that laid the foundations for the rule of law and constitutional democracy.
Ion Predescu was a member of the Romanian Bar Association and associate professor at Craiova Law Faculty and at the “Spiru Haret” University Faculty of Law in Bucharest, as well as the author of numerous books, articles and studies published in magazines specialized.
He received the Star of Romania at the rank of Knight, the Order of Faithful Service, the Patriarchal Order of the Holy Emperors Constantine and Helena. Predescu is an honorary citizen of Craiova and was honored with Academic Merit.
Appointed judge of the Constitutional Court in 2004 for a period of 9 years, he represented an important factor of balance, reason and wisdom, putting all his erudition, professional and life experience, but also his special human qualities at the service of constitutional justice. The members of the Constitutional Court and all those who had the privilege of having met him and of having worked with Ion Predescu will bring him well-deserved recognition and indelible memories.
