President Klaus Iohannis sent it to Parliament for Reexamination of the Law declaring June 4 Day of the Treaty of Trianon.
„Parliament’s adoption of the Trianon Treaty Day declaration law on June 4 has drawn much criticism from both experts and non-governmental organizations. The reactions produced at the level of civil society, as well as its magnitude, highlighted that this law, as adopted by Parliament, did not represent the result of a genuine and coherent process of consultation and public debate. From this perspective, we consider that it is necessary to re-analyze the Law to declare June 4 Day of the Treaty of Trianon, taking up the entire deliberative process on the law by Parliament and initiating a broad analysis and consultation, involving specialists, historians, researchers, teachers, academics, educational institutions, public institutions, representatives of civil society“, Shown in the request for reexamination.
„In a member country of the European Union, strongly attached to European values and principles, openness to dialogue, a mature approach to issues that can generate failures in society, the promotion of tolerance and respect for human dignity are the pillars on which Romania must constantly base. In this process, state authorities have a great responsibility“, The president also shows.
The law regulates the declaration of June 4 as Trianon Treaty Day and provides for the possibility of organizing, at national and local level, cultural, educational and scientific events dedicated to raising awareness of the meaning and importance of the Trianon Treaty; In this sense, central and local authorities, non-governmental organizations and representatives of civil society can contribute to the organization of actions by providing material and logistical support. At the same time, in accordance with this law, the Romanian Broadcasting Company and the Romanian Television Company may include in their programs cultural programs or aspects of events dedicated to this holiday.
The law was also attacked in CCR, but the patio rejected the president’s complaint.
