President Klaus Iohannis stated, on Friday, in Baia Mare, that contacts have been initiated with other states for a possible transfer of patients in case Romanian hospitals no longer face the COVID-19 pandemic, Mediafax reports.

Asked on Friday at a press conference whether Romania is also considering transferring some seriously ill patients abroad in case of overcrowding in hospitals, President Klaus Iohannis said “several contacts” have already been initiated.

“I discussed this option with the Minister of Health and although at the moment in Romania there is space for intensive care, and places for patients who do not yet have very serious forms, we have already initiated some contacts with other states with which we have special relationships and I hope Let’s not get there, but, in the extremes, yes, we have contacts and we will take advantage of them ”, answered Iohannis.

Romania also broke the record for new coronavirus infections on Friday. There are 10,260 new cases in the last day and 123 deaths, and in intensive care they have reached 1,001.
