The SARS-CoV-2 virus has undergone mutations since its inception and its symptoms have changed from the first moment.
These are the main conclusions of the university professor Dr. Carmen Dorobăț, director of the Hospital for Infectious Diseases Iași.
In an interview Pro TV News, told us about the evolution of coronavirus infections, but also about the mutations it suffered.
“The symptoms have changed from the first moment. At first, digestive phenomena were rare, and now they are common, in the context of this infection, obviously. Also, everyone hopes that it is tasteless and odorless. Well now, the absence of taste and smell no longer appears at the beginning. In most of those hospitalized, it appears after 7-10 days, that is, during the course of the disease. That is exactly what I wanted to emphasize, that it is a disease with many facets, that it changes the way of outsourcing for the doctor and that we can expect unexpectedly ”. – said the specialist doctor.
Why is this virus spreading more now?
And yet why is this virus spreading more now? Romania has reached about 6,500 cases a day and we do not have a very clear explanation for this phenomenon.
Dr. Carmen Dorobăț thinks that there could be 2 explanations:
“The explanation could come from two directions. First, I would put first the fact that we all gave it the will to spread. It is an intense community transmission, and it has been facilitated by all the moments of socialization, in which Most of us have downplayed the importance of protective measures, on the one hand.
On the other hand, the structure of the virus can change over time and this virus has proven its ability. It featured many mutations, mutations that occur especially when passing from one individual to another. Such mutations can, on the one hand, cause a change in aggression, that is, the severity of the disease, which I would not say. I prefer to say that it is a change, like a contagion. In fact, contagion is important and even more important today.“- said the manager of the Iasi Infectious Diseases Hospital.
