Infection rate falls below 10%, but COVID-19 death toll rises

In the last 24 hours, 2,754 new cases were reported, out of 28,492 tests performed, PCR and rapid tests. The infection rate is 9.6%. Another 98 Romanians died after being infected by coronavirus. 1,050 COVID patients are hospitalized in intensive care.

To date, on January 19, in Romania, 697,898 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID – 19) have been confirmed.

630,236 patients were declared cured.

Following nationwide testing, compared to the last report, 2,745 new cases of people infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (COVID – 19) were recorded, cases that had not previously had a positive test.

The coefficient of accumulated infections at 14 days, reported per 1,000 inhabitants, is calculated by the Public Health Directorates, at the municipal and county levels of Bucharest. Here is the table prepared based on the reports received by CNCCI from the Public Health Directorates:

To date, 17,369 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Between 18.01.2021 (10:00) – 19.01.2021 (10:00), 98 deaths (49 men and 49 women) were reported, of some patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in Alba, Arad, Bacău, Bihor, Bistrița-Năsăud, Botoșani, Brașov, Buzău, Caraș-Severin, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galați, Gorj, Harghita, Iași, Maramureș, Mehedinți, Mureș, Neamâ, Prauhova, Sibiui, Vibcea, Sibceava, Sibiua, Teleceava, Sibiuiș Vrancea and Ilfov.

Of these, 1 death was recorded in the age group 40 to 49 years, 11 deaths in the age group 50 to 59 years, 26 deaths in the age category 60 to 69 years, 32 deaths in the age category of age 70 to 79 years and 28 deaths in the category of over 80 years.

95 of the deaths registered were of patients who had comorbidities, 1 deceased patient did not present comorbidities and for 2 deceased patients, no comorbidities have been reported to date.

In specialized health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 8,417. Of these, 1,050 are hospitalized in ATI.

To date, 5,193,417 RT-PCR tests and 51,608 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide. In the last 24 hours, 23,060 RT-PCR tests were performed (14,692 according to case definition and medical protocol and 8,368 on request) and 5,432 rapid antigen tests.

In Romania, 42,717 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are in home isolation and 11,462 people are in institutional isolation. Additionally, 63,150 people are in home quarantine and 136 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 2,335 calls were registered to the single emergency number 112 and 1,002 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), opened especially to inform the public.

As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 on some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, on January 18, 4,679 penalties for minor offenses, worth 825,650 lei.

Likewise, through the competent structures of the Police, yesterday 5 criminal proceedings were raised to frustrate the fight against diseases, a fact foreseen and sanctioned by art. 352 Penal Code.

We remind the public that the Ministry of the Interior has put into operation, as of 04/07/2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where infractions to sanitary protection regulations can be notified.

The calls are answered by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures for the verification of the notified issues.

Regarding the situation of Romanian citizens in other states, it was confirmed that 7,489 Romanian citizens were infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (coronavirus): 1,941 in Italy, 1,547 in Spain, 173 in the United Kingdom, 125 in France, 3,110 in Germany, 93 in Greece, 49 in Denmark, 36 in Hungary, 28 in Holland, 2 in Namibia, 4 in the US, 7 in Sweden, 131 in Austria, 22 in Belgium, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 36 in Switzerland, 3 in Turkey, 2 in Iceland, 2 in Belarus, 2 in Bulgaria, 12 in Cyprus, 2 in India, 2 in Ukraine, 8 in the United Arab Emirates, 12 in Moldova, 3 in Montenegro, 112 in Ireland and one each in Argentina, Tunisia, Luxembourg, Malta, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Republic of the Congo, Qatar, Vatican, Portugal, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Singapore, Slovenia, Russian Federation and Croatia.

Since the start of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic until now, 136 Romanian citizens abroad, 33 in Italy, 19 in France, 43 in Great Britain, 11 in Spain, 14 in Germany, 2 in Belgium, have died 3 in Sweden, 4 in Ireland, 2 in Switzerland, 1 in the United States, 1 in Brazil, 1 in the Republic of the Congo, 1 in Greece and 1 in Iran.

Of the Romanian citizens confirmed with the new coronavirus infection, 798 were declared cured: 677 in Germany, 90 in Greece, 18 in France, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 2 in Namibia, one in Luxembourg, one in Tunisia and one in Argentine.
