Around the world, extreme weather events are becoming more common. Whether we’re talking about catastrophic floods, violent storms, heavy snowfall, fires, or tornadoes, they’re hitting more and more often. The main culprits are climate change caused by global warming. And 2020 is a year of extremes, a year of records. In the next 10 years, the number of hot days in Bucharest could double, warn specialists.

“On September 1, we registered the highest values so far at the maximum temperature level: 39.3 degrees Celsius in Zimnicea, 39.1 in Giurgiu.

Basically, the value of Zimnicea is also a record, being the highest value so far since measurements were made at the level of this station, for more than a hundred years.

So, in the first days of autumn, three days in a row, we recorded both minimums and maximums in many meteorological stations: 14 on September 1, 23 this morning, at minimum values, records that confirm the trend of the global warming phenomenon, because This year, from one month to another, and from one season to another, we had significant variations and the months in which the average temperatures had positive thermal deviations predominated, except only in May.

Ion Cristoiu, incendiary accusations: Iohannis turned his head to minimize the accident not for the sake of Bode, but for that of Pahonțu

From the 8 months, until now, every month, in our country, the thermal deviations were between 0.5 to 3.9 degrees Celsius, being 3.9 in March 2020.

This happens from year to year, and we register not only in the summer months, even in the winter months, significant thermal deviations, greater than two degrees, here, March – 3.9 degrees, but not only from the point of view thermal.

We had a record regarding the evolution of the rainfall pattern from one month to the next. The winter months brought us lower values than usual, an April with only 13.2 liters per square meter, the driest April in history, beating the previous record of 2007 when they were 14.2 liters per square meter , to June – the fifth rainiest month in history, but here we continue talking about the phenomenon of pedological drought, strong and extreme in almost the entire country, but especially in the southern and southeastern part of the country.

In 2020, Dobrogea sets a record: the driest year in the history of the region, “says Elena Mateescu, director of Digi24’s National Meteorological Administration.

Bogdan Antonescu, expert in external meteorological phenomena, climatologist: “We are in the middle of climate change. There are things that we have talked about for 10, 20 years and it is clear that these things are going to evolve if we do not take any action, if we do not begin to be more aware.

We have all kinds of extreme events. The June rains, for example. We have not had, compared to previous years, many extreme events in Europe. I’m talking about big hail or tornadoes, or storms that produce strong winds. But we had a lot of rains, heat waves, and drought.

These things will continue, or at least that indicates that most of the studies that we have now, that things will get worse. We will have more heat waves in the future, more intense, longer periods of drought. We will also have several extreme events in some regions, probably heavy rains, but also hail and tornadoes.
