Romania recorded a negative natural population increase in February and March this year, compared to the same period in 2019, according to data released Monday by the National Institute of Statistics.

At the March 2020 level, the number of live births was 702 lower compared to March 2019, respectively 247 in February 2020 compared to the same month last year.

Furthermore, the number of people who died in the first month of spring this year was 298 less compared to March 2019.

In February 2020, the number was 411 lower than in February of the previous year.

The natural increase was negative in both February and March 2020, and in February and March 2019, the INS states.
