Ion Aliman died on September 17 at a hospital in the capital, about a week after testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection. He was elected mayor of the Deveselu commune in June 2012, then obtained a new term in 2016 and is now a candidate for the third term, from the PSD.

Ion Aliman was a naval officer for 30 years, of which he was captain of a passenger ship for 20 years.

During the period when Ion Aliman was mayor of the Deveselu commune, the missile defense system, a component of NATO’s ballistic missile defense system, was put into operation at the local military base.
