The images of the massacre come from the historic center of Rome and capture thousands of birds on the asphalt, many dead, others disoriented and scared, unable to fly.

The fireworks were organized despite the ordinance prohibiting them, from December 31 to January 6. The ordinance provides for fines of up to 500 euros and confiscation of explosive material.

The images capture birds flying desperately during fireworks, then crashing into high-voltage cables in Rome’s historic center, writes La Stampa.
