On Monday night, several gunmen opened fire on six different locations in central Vienna. The first attack took place around 8 pm near the Seitenstettengasse synagogue, when a gunman opened fire on people on the terraces of cafes and restaurants.
Members of the special forces quickly arrived at the scene. A policeman was injured, but the police managed to shoot the attacker who was armed with an automatic rifle, a pistol and a machete.
Authorities could not confirm whether the attack was anti-Semitic, but said it was certainly an attack by radicalized people. It was at least one attacker who was killed by the police. He was wearing a fake explosive belt.
Austrian police subsequently announced on Twitter that several armed individuals had carried out attacks in six areas of Vienna.
