The new Minister of Education responds to Dacian Cioloș, after the co-president of USR PLUS was not satisfied with his appointment to this position. Sorin Cîmpeanu defended himself against the accusation of tracking and made accusations in this regard against the PLUS leader.
“At the beginning of the formation of the coalition, nobody wanted the Ministry of Education. I do not understand – if it was wanted so much – why it was not negotiated that this ministry is transferred to another party of the coalition, that it does not remain in the PNL and is a beloved and accepted minister. As far as I know, no, during the negotiation. Now that some in the coalition decide for other colleagues, it is something more than debatable, which I would not like to enter ”, declared the new Minister of Education, in Digi24.
Sorin Cîmpeanu said that Ștefan Pălărie’s name was not officially presented during the negotiations, but that he is “a very competent person, who could have been a very good Minister of Education, if the outcome of the negotiations led the USR ministry aside PLUS ”.
“Regarding the accusations, I don’t really understand anything. Why things cannot be differentiated. I’m curious if anyone can say that they didn’t make any mistakes during their career. I would like to clarify the accusation of political trajectory: I entered politics for the first time in 2016, after being an apolitical part of a political government, supported by ALDE in a government with PSD. I was a member of ALDE for the first time in 2016, I left this party voluntarily to build another center-right initiative: Pro Romania. I had no chance with this project, from which I was excluded. And now on NLP. That’s it, ”said the Minister of Education.
In this sense, Cîmpeanu said about Cioloș that he was in the early 90’s in the leadership of PUNR (Romanian National Unity Party, ed.), Then he was a minister in a minority liberal government – very well – then he was supported European Commissioner – exceptionally – for the PDL, then he returned to a technocratic government with the support of the PSD, to found the PLUS party. We count them, how many come out? It’s a shame to say that someone can’t drive a car well because they can’t cook ”.
How Sorin Cîmpeanu responds to the accusations about the plagiarism of Victor Ponta
Regarding the accusations of plagiarism in the case of Víctor Ponta and Gabriel Oprea, he admitted that he was wrong in his previous term as Minister of Education.
“They proposed me to enter politics as a minister, to enter the government. On December 11, 2014, when I did not know who the members of the government were, what parties were in power, I completely disinterested in politics. A few days later, an emergency ordinance appeared, 94, which established the possibility of renouncing the title of doctor. It may have been a mistake on my part that I did not understand this mechanism in time, but I presented an article in which this resignation was made through a methodology promoted by order of the Minister, which I did not give and no one else renounced the title of doctor. Yes, absolutely (which was a mistake, ed.). At that moment it seemed like a way out of a stalemate, which I realized two days before, ”said Sorin Cîmpeanu.
