The journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu argued, on Friday night, in Digi24, how the reasons invoked by the Archdiocese of Tomis, headed by His Eminence Theodosius, to annul the restrictions on the Pilgrimage of Saint Andrew have no basis in the text of the Constitution on the restriction of freedom of religious belief.
Cristian Tudor Popescu: We have a new example, after Dr. Pop and His Eminence Mache, which is short for Macedonia, that this is his secular name, as a layman. It’s the code name Security gave you.
What does it say here? It is the first right, the religious right, the right to pilgrimage, that people have. This is, as Nicolae Ceaușescu would say, a false lie. It is a right, but it is far from the first.
For example, perhaps the first is the right to life.
What else does it say there? The same text as that of Ghelasie, the abbot of Sighișoara, who rested a few days ago with Covid.
Claudiu Pândaru, Digi24 journalist: A prelate who did not believe in Covid fell ill and died in the meantime.
CTP: “They forbid us to believe, they do not let us maintain our habits.” It is, again, false manipulation! Nobody wants to ban faith in this country! Does anyone think that the current authorities really want, for some political reason, to ban the faith in Romania? They have nothing to do with this.
This is what Ms Șoșoacă, a lawyer for the Archdiocese of Tomis, invokes in the complaint addressed to the court. Article 29 of the Constitution: “1. Freedom of thought and opinion, as well as freedom of religious belief, cannot be restricted in any way. “Has anyone restricted freedom of thought, opinion, and belief? Has anyone said,” You are no longer allowed to be Orthodox? starting today “? Did you start a persecution against the Orthodox in Romania? No. No way.
“No one can be forced to adopt an opinion or adhere to a religious belief contrary to his beliefs.” Has anyone tried this against believers?
“2. Freedom of conscience is guaranteed; it must be manifested in a spirit of tolerance and mutual respect,” says the Constitution.
This is what Ms Șoșoacă says: “Article 29 of the Romanian Constitution, which stipulates that the religious right to religious manifestations cannot be restricted in any way, is the only one that cannot be restricted regardless of whether there is war.” Where does the statement “cannot be restricted, regardless of whether it is war”? Tell the believers, Mrs. Lawyer.
It says “religious manifestations”. What does the Constitution say? She, freedom of conscience, which is guaranteed, must manifest itself in a spirit of tolerance and mutual respect, that is, exactly what believers must show towards others, their compatriots, in this very special case of the pandemic and 2020.
His Eminence Mache says the same: “How can I miss the Cave of San Andrés? This has been done every year. ‘
Right now, when the ATI is full in Medgidia, in the parish of His Eminence Mache, you can’t let people go there and get infected. This is what the phrase of the Constitution says: “spirit of tolerance and mutual respect.” So let us understand this situation, that the Church, the respective Mache, understand that at this moment it is not possible. What will he do? Constanța is in quarantine for serious medical reasons, hundreds of people die every day. And we do not take quarantine into account. In addition, we go to the Cave of San Andrés.
His Eminence Mache also says: “How can the people of Constanta not come on pilgrimage to the Cave of Saint Andrew? I think all Romanians should come. “
So you need in this terrible moment for Romania, when death floats everywhere, that all Romanians come there, one on top of the other, and then what will happen, Mr. Pândaru?
Claudiu Pândaru: Let’s see images like in Italy in ATI. But not only for the pilgrimage.
CTP: I suggest one thing. Now approve this pilgrimage, provided that all those who are infected do not call 112 or the DSP. Give them a special number from the Archdiocese of Thomis and see, when they start to have a fever and they suffocate, they get sick, to His Eminence Mache, this is the messenger of God on Earth, and he will put his hands on the skulls of his sheep, who called himself a pastor, and will heal them immediately. In this way we will be able to launch ATI, with the help of the Archdiocese of Tomis. The only problem with this proposal is that His Eminence Mache could help himself first, because, for example, the Patriarch of Serbia himself died of Covid. Because he held a funeral for the Metropolitan of Montenegro, who said that pilgrimage is God’s vaccine.
