I do not intend to reintroduce the state of emergency, but I am in favor of preventive measures

“The scarecrow with the state of emergency has been carried by many people. I say it once again: I do not intend to return to the state of emergency, ”says Klaus Iohannis.

He also says that there are less harsh measures that have better effects.

“So the best prevention is the mask, the distance, the hygiene. We don’t need to shut down the entire country to achieve a fencing effect. You don’t need a state of emergency to wear a mask. At this stage I do not intend to reintroduce the state of emergency, but I am in favor of preventive measures. I have to admit that I think events where a lot of people are gathering and control is probably getting more difficult will have to be restricted. Unfortunately, we have seen too many encounters that have a positive substrate, such as weddings, baptisms, celebrations, where these restrictions were not observed ”, continues the head of state.

On Friday, a new record for SARS-CoV-2 infection was recorded in Romania, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced 3,186 new cases and 52 deaths. In eight counties, the accumulated contagion coefficient after 14 days exceeded the threshold of 1.5 per thousand inhabitants.

“The government is taking all measures to avoid ending up in critical situations. We always circulate data about the system. For example, in the current situation we have more than 600 people in Intensive Care, but we have more than 1000 places destined only for patients with COVID. So we are not at the limit at all, “says Klaus Iohannis.

However, he says solutions are being sought to increase the number of seats

“On the other hand, we had a request to the governors to find solutions to have more places in Intensive Care. and more places for patients who are hospitalized not in very serious condition, but in a condition that requires hospitalization. That is why we will do everything necessary to prevent the hospital system from entering a critical state ”, adds the head of state.

He criticized the authorities’ decision to measure the number of ATI beds, but there were no specialized personnel.

“I am not in favor of European measures. It is necessary to study very well where to increase the number of beds in Intensive Care and to do it there. I do not want to get to situations, which existed, that intensive care beds were installed, but there were no specialized personnel, and all the effort was in vain ”, also affirms Iohannis.

Iohannis demands a methodology

“We talked a lot about restrictions and we all noticed that the decentralization of the decision by restrictions was a good thing, but more clarification is needed and we agree, even in the discussion we had with the representatives of the Institute, with Mr. Minister Tătaru and my team , to work on a methodology that allows faster, more efficient and more correlated decisions with the situation in each locality and in each county, “said Klaus Iohannis after visiting the National Institute of Public Health. .

He believes this will make the authorities more efficient.

In this way we can take the necessary measures faster, in this way we can avoid, so to speak, too harsh restrictions. But, I repeat, the basic measures are still being discussed: the mask, the distance, the hygiene ”, added the head of state.

“It just came to our attention then. Almost all experts believe that the mask is extremely useful if we don’t want to have a massive spread of the virus. So I can tell you right now that we will probably have more discussions about where and when to wear a mask. I recommend wearing mask all the time when you leave home, so in public space, whether indoors or outdoors, it is good for us, that those close to us wear a mask, ”said Klaus Iohannis, after Friday’s visit from En sp.

“The basic measures are still being discussed: the mask, the distance, the hygiene,” the head of state also said.
