Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate in the race for the White House who is close to winning the 270 votes needed to win the presidential election, came out in a statement Wednesday, but he categorically avoided claiming victory. Instead, he called for American unity and said he may have won the election as a Democrat but will lead the United States as an American.
“The presidency is not an institution of political partisanship. It is the only institution in this country that represents everyone and cares for all Americans, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do,” Joe Biden said.
He acknowledged that there is a lot of discord and unrest in the country, but even if opinions are so polarized, “we must stop treating our political opponents as enemies,” the former vice president demanded. “We are not enemies. What unites us as Americans is much stronger than what divides us,” Biden said.
He mentioned the historical nature of these elections, in which more than 150 million voters voted.
“Now, after a night of vote counting, it is clear that we are about to win enough states to reach the 270 electoral votes needed to run for president. I’m not here to say that I won, I’m here to say that when the count is up, I think we’ll be the winners, “Joe Biden said.
According to the latest CNN projections, Biden would have 253 of the 270 required electoral votes, while Donald Trump has 213. Final results have yet to be announced in six states: Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada and Pennsylvania. . Either candidate still has a chance to win.
