Travel from the mainland to the Greek islands has been suspended as a measure to limit the spread of the coronavirus to places where medical facilities are insufficient, according to the Greek reporter.
The restrictive measures will be gradually relaxed, in three stages, the Greek authorities announce.
The first phase is to allow those who own tourism businesses on the islands or who are masters to travel.
The second phase begins on May 18, when tourism employees will be able to reach the Greek islands, provided they have the appropriate documents from the employer.
If everything goes according to plan, tourists can access the Greek islands from June 1. Authorities say that in the most optimistic scenario, the lifting of traffic measures on the islands could be lifted as soon as May 25.
However, the Greek Interior Minister states that the transport will be carried out safely, with a maximum number of passengers on the ferry. Ships will be allowed to carry 50% of their normal capacity and the safety distance between passengers must be observed.
Lufthansa announced on Friday that commercial flights between Athens and Frankfurt will resume on May 18.
