Rizea’s lawyer accuses President Igor Dodon of abusing him.
“They took him to the police station. We are facing an abuse of Igor Dodon. He can come to Romania tonight or never,” said Cristian Rizea’s lawyer, Alexandru Morărescu.
Rizea was left without citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, through a decree signed yesterday by President Igor Dodon, although it has been known for at least a year that the former PSD deputy is hiding in Chisinau.
Cristian Rizea was definitively sentenced in 2019 to 4 years and 8 months in prison with execution for influence peddling, money laundering and statements of influence.
He took refuge in Chisinau.
Previously, President Igor Dodon denied providing protection to Rizea. According to him, he presented the documents to obtain citizenship of the Republic of Moldova on November 14, 2017, motivating him to have relatives in the Gagauz autonomy. On December 28, 2017, Rizea had already obtained the Moldovan passport. Dodon suggested that the Romanian politician obtained citizenship following an agreement with oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, Jurnal.md also writes.
The Romanian Ministry of Justice is awaiting confirmation of the withdrawal of citizenship and subsequently resuming extradition procedures.
In a telephone intervention carried out immediately after the announcement about the withdrawal of citizenship, Cristian Rizea made several statements to Realitatea de la București.
“Criminals in Romania have paid millions of euros to the political mafia sponsored by Igor Dodon and Vladimir Plahotniuc who want to dry up the Republic of Moldova, as they have done so far. My attorneys are already completing and filing complaints with the Constitutional Court. It is an abusive act to withdraw citizenship for no reason, under the pressure of black money. Vladimir Plahotniuc is the one who gave money to Ponta in the campaign for the presidential elections. That is why he was present (Ponta – no) at all the meetings in Chisinau, even when he was no longer prime minister. This man (Vladimir Plathoniuc – no.) Stole the last ten years in the Republic of Moldova. Igor Dodon is under Plahotniuc’s shoe. He’s a blackmailer. (Plahotniuc – no.) Control everyone except Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase. Otherwise, control everyone. And maybe there are a few more. This is the result: people who can be easily controlled ”, are part of Rizea’s statements.
Asked if he fears being extradited, the former deputy replied: “I have no other option, there is a trial.”
