A fire that broke out in the Intensive Care Unit for Covid patients of a private hospital killed eight people, announced the governor of Gaziantep province in southeastern Turkey, Reuters reports.

The fire at Sanko University Hospital was likely caused by an oxygen ventilator that exploded, according to local authorities.
Seven patients died on the spot, while the eighth victim died on the way to another hospital.
The fire was extinguished shortly after it broke out, intervention teams and firefighters immediately mobilized.
The victims were between 56 and 85 years old. Another 14 patients who were treated in the ward were transferred to nearby hospitals, according to the latest data transmitted by the local press.
An investigation into the tragedy has been launched.
A spokesman for the Turkish presidency offered its condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
