The government seems to be betting on a strong revitalization of coastal tourism, which has been overloaded in pandemic conditions and suffers from an outdated infrastructure. The authorities promise to double the beaches, but also a highway or at least one expressway between Constanza and the south of the coast, the old national highway being a nightmare for several years due to congestion.
Prime Minister Ludovic Orban declared, on Thursday, in Eforie, that the Government plans a feasibility study for the construction of a fast track or even a highway that allows the fluidization of road traffic between Constanza and the seaside resorts of the south coast.
The statement came in response to a journalist’s question about what measures will be taken so that on the road between Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud road traffic is no longer congested, especially on weekends in the summer season.
“We have planned to carry out a feasibility study for the construction of an expressway or highway on the motorway, which will not pass through towns and which will have connections to all tourist centers between Constanta and the southern border of Romania.” This project will become a reality, it is clear that the need for this expressway or even highway, which would allow rapid movement between tourist complexes, is a necessary project, which will be carried out ”, declared the prime minister, quoted by Agerpres.
The surface area of Romania’s beaches will double
On Thursday, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban participated in the Eforie station, in a presentation of the Sanding program of the coastal tourist area, a project financed with European funds, which was also attended by the Minister of the Environment, Costel Alexe.
The European Coastal Sanding Program, funded with EU funds, is a “fundamental work”, after which Romania’s beach area will double.
“The Romanian government supports, and will continue to do so, this process of combating coastal erosion. Today we have the most important environmental project in this regard. More than 840 million euros, which are invested in this second stage of the project, through which, along 30 kilometers, we will be able not only to combat coastal erosion, a fact that would have led to Romania, in some parts, no longer having beaches – through this project, we were able to give an opportunity to biodiversity, so action was taken for the first time. We are talking about the restoration of marine ecosystems and the conservation of biodiversity and, perhaps most importantly, for the whole Romanian society and it is good news, Through this project, the surface of the Romanian beaches will double “, said the Minister of the Environment, Costel Alexe, quoted by Agerpres. .
Wide beaches up to 100 meters
He mentioned that, in certain parts of the Romanian coast, the beach will extend up to a hundred meters out to sea, and through “innovative and high-precision” technologies. the surface of Romania’s beaches will increase by more than 200 hectares. The Minister pointed out that, through this project, our country will have “better protected” beaches in the next 50 years.

For his part, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said that, without measures, erosion would have put the disappearance of beaches in many areas of the coast at risk.
Express highway between Constan Cona and Tulcea
The Prime Minister mentioned that the Government will also support other projects that could lead to an increase in the flow of tourists on the Romanian coast.
“Since 2008, when I was Minister of Transportation, I proposed the construction of an expressway linking Constanta with Tulcea, Delta, to increase the variety of the tourist offer, in order to attract tourists, combining services and attractions along the sea with the obvious attraction of the Delta. Of course, I started working on this project with my colleagues. We started to prepare a feasibility study, which has long been forgotten in the drawers. I can tell you today that the contract was signed for the design of this expressway, which connects Constanza and Tulcea. But not only the connection between Constanza and Tulcea – thus ensuring the possibility of inclusion in tourism and Delta services – will make the connection between Constanza and the Pan-European Corridor IX, because The Constanţa – Tulcea expressway will pass through the bridge over the Danube, also in the profile of the expressway, which is being built between Tulcea and Brăila, and from Brăila there will be two expressways that will make the connection with the Pan-European Corridor IX“He explained.
Orban said the government is considering major projects aimed at developing infrastructure in the Constanta County area, but also advocated for better value for money from investors.
Of course, we are also waiting for an adaptation by investors, so that there is a better relation between quality and price, which will make the Romanian coast more attractive, for tourists, especially for tourists from major European countries. In my opinion, we have arguments to attract them here, ”added the prime minister.
