Last minute results before the local elections on Sunday, September 27, 2020.
DCNews.ro conducted a survey among readers of the site on the presence in the 2020 local elections. Three response options were valid: “Yes”, “No, I am not interested” and “No, I am afraid of COVID- 19. ”It appears that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as the survey results show, causes more than 11% of Romanians not to go to the polls this year. 55% said they would go to the polls on Sunday 27 September 2020 for local elections, 32% say they are not interested in these local elections.
The same result of the survey shows that in Moldova they were the ones that most marked the option “no, I’m not interested”, respectively 52.5%. Here, only 39.5% voted to go to the polls. The percentage of those who fear COVID-19 is lower than the national average, reporting 7.9%.
On closer inspection, the signal is coming from Neam condado County, actually, from where 1,144 people found they are not interested in Sunday’s vote, in local elections. Here, only 6.7% say they will go to the polls, and 2.3% say they do not go to the polls for fear of COVID-19.
The number of those from Neamț who verified that they do not go to the polls represents a significant proportion of the national total (5861). Because we are talking about a quantitative online survey, we cannot qualitatively express the motivation for this negative vote.
The results of the DCNews online survey also show that, in Muntenia, more than 60% responded that they will go to the polls, respectively 61.2%. The percentage of those who will not go because of COVID-19 exceeds 12%, as in Transylvania. In contrast, in Muntenia, the percentage of those who are not interested in COVID-19 is the lowest, at only 26%.
It should be noted, however, that dcnews.ro is a primarily political site, and those who read DCNews.ro are interested in politics, which may lead to a stated intention to participate in a higher vote.
