According to Calin Ispravnic, president of the Private Property Association, in recent days the ECHR established total compensation of 9,879,618 euros in favor of former abusive property owners. Ispravnic’s conclusion is that there will be other sentences from the Romanian state because the judges do not calculate the compensations applying European jurisprudence.
Furthermore, the state did not modify the legislation, as requested by the European institutions.
“The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the body that supervises the execution of the decisions of the European Court, has asked Romania to take the urgent measures necessary and present, before May 31, 2019, the status of resolution of these cases, but the Romanian State has not reacted in this regard. No legislative changes have been made, so the series of sentences in the ECHR and the compensation to the former owners with the market value of the properties acquired by the Communist status and sold, mostly to tenants in the 1990s, says Calin Ispravnic, president of the Private Property Association.
