Romania is in partial quarantine, as of Monday, after the number of daily infections exceeded the 10,000 threshold. Epidemiologist Emilian Popovici points out that results will only be seen in two weeks and urges us to wear a mask.

The vice president of the Romanian Epidemiology Society, Emilian Popovici, stated in RFI that if 90% of people were to wear a protective mask, the transmission of the coronavirus would be blocked and the number of infections would decrease.

I return to the observance of the measures by the population, because there were voices that said that the vast majority of the population wears a mask and things would be almost fine in that sense. I say no. If 90% of people wore a mask, we would block transmission. Yes? So if 90, not 100%, if 90% of people wore a mask in all situations that require it, we would reduce transmission by 90%, the virus would be blocked. We know very well that if two people stand face to face and respect the distance and wear a mask, the risk of transmission is reduced to 1.5%. And then, if things like this happen, the positive consequence should appear, that is, we should not face these figures, ”said Emilian Popovici.

The epidemiologist also specified that, until the appearance of a vaccine and the immunization of an important segment of the population, the relaxation of the restrictions will mean an increase in the number of cases, and the hardening will lead to a decrease.

As of Monday, November 9, new national restrictions came into force. Thus, between 23 and 5 in the morning you can leave your home only for professional reasons, for medical emergencies, or for the care of children and the elderly.

The mask has become mandatory throughout the country, regardless of the number of new cases registered in the area. Only children under the age of 5 are exempt.

Also, all students only take online courses starting Monday. Schools, even those in localities that operate on the green stage, are closed. Instead, nurseries and after-school activities remain open.

Stores will close at 9:00 p.m. Only pharmacies and gas stations can operate after this time. However, home deliveries are allowed, without restrictions.

Markets, fairs, closed fairs are not allowed. Only the exteriors remain open, complying with sanitary regulations.

Parties, anniversaries and meetings of any kind, both outdoors and indoors, are strictly prohibited.

Distance work, teleworking, both in the private and public sectors, becomes mandatory, where the activity allows it. And employers with more than 50 employees must change their working hours so that people go to work one by one and do not crowd public transportation.
