Dr. Emilian Imbri, director of the Victor Babeș Hospital in Bucharest, says that Romania started the coronavirus pandemic by taking all measures to limit the spread of the disease, after witnessing the dramas in China, Italy and Spain. With the first stages of relaxation, the transmission of COVID-19 began to increase, so in September, with the resumption of most activities, the situation got out of control. “In a poor country, when you take out the only two tanks at the beginning and they are destroyed, you have no resources for the end. We did everything we could at the beginning, ”said Imbri, on TVR.
Referring to the way in which the epidemiological situation in our country has evolved, the manager of the capital’s medical unit stated: “We are atypical. We have witnessed what happened in China, Spain and Italy, witnesses to this avalanche of deaths and diseases. We had time to get scared and we acted before the serious situation in our country was declared. We entered a state of emergency, we closed schools, we went to work from home, they began to give fines, then things that other countries did not have time to do. And then when the first waves of viruses hit us, we were ready. I practically stopped the virus. Then there was the question of why we are like this and we don’t do what other countries do. The other countries have not been able to do this. A generation died in Italy.

Then the relaxation continued slowly because it was natural. The population began to stop believing, to trivialize, and the administration did not take such drastic measures. Relaxation after relaxation, the transmission began to increase, but not in such a terrible way as to scare us.
We dropped the reins around September when the holidays ended, the schools started, the jobs started everywhere, the transportation congestion started. (In the elections – no) there were some measures so severe that, practically, you did not have much time to seal the virus.
All these things have led to an increase in the number of diseases because children are also carriers and they went to their grandparents, their parents began to leave them with their grandparents. They are natural things. “
Asked, in this context, if we did not return to nature too quickly, Emilian Imbri replied: “I don’t know if I could postpone it. The tension was so great. (…) Maybe, really, I didn’t distance the last relaxations too well and that’s how it feels.

We started out atypical and ended up trying to stop transmission to the elderly because they are the most vulnerable.
In a poor country, when you take out the only two tanks at the beginning and they are destroyed, you have no resources for the end. We did everything we could in the beginning. How long can it last? Anyway, we are still good medical resources. But the population could no longer be retained because the risk was to initiate those demonstrations that now exist in other countries.
Regarding the situation at the “Victor Babeș” Hospital in Bucharest, the manager of the medical institution said that there are no places for intensive care or, in general, for COVID-19 patients with less severe forms of the disease.
“We do not have vacancies in intensive care. When a place is vacated, a very rapid period follows in which that place is disinfected and a person is already waiting who comes from the hospital, because overnight his condition has worsened or he is brought by ISU from another hospital or city.
Now the hospital is full. 540 beds are occupied, both in «Babeș» – 440 and in Pipera we have at least 90. There may be 4-5 more beds, but Pipera is not a place where a patient with symptoms can arrive, people arrive. without symptoms or with a slight symptomatology ”, said the doctor Emilian Imbri.
