The PSD leadership meets in a meeting on Thursday for the exclusion of Senator Ion Ganea from the party. Ganea is a member of the Senate permanent board and was intentionally absent in recent sessions, the Social Democrats say, so the session quorum cannot be met and the law that would postpone the elections cannot be put on the agenda.
The absence of PSD senator Ion Ganea at the meeting of the Senate Permanent Office does not allow the meeting of the leadership of the legislative forum, so the law that postpones the date of parliamentary elections cannot enter the parliamentary re-examination procedure.
The Social Democrats wanted Parliament to quickly reject President Klaus Iohannis’ request to reexamine the law that stipulates that the date of parliamentary elections is set by the Legislature, not December 6, as decided by the Government.
President Klaus Iohannis sent for a reexamination last week the law that sets the date of parliamentary elections. The law has been declared constitutional by the Court, and if the normative act enters into force before December 6, established by the Government for the conduct of the elections, the Parliament may postpone the elections.
Before the meeting of the National Political Council, PSD president Marcel Ciolacu declared that until December 6, Parliament will reject the re-examination and send the law for enactment.
“By the 6th, the law will be sent for promulgation. The president must decide what he wants to do, whether or not the elections are postponed,” Ciolacu said.
Once the law reaches the president for enactment, Klaus Iohannis has 10 days, after which he will be obligated to enact the law.
