Eight people in Germany were accidentally injected with five doses of vaccine instead of one

Eight employees of a nursing home in Germany accidentally received 5 doses of the COVID vaccine instead of one. They are seven women and one man, between 38 and 54 years old.

All eight patients were immediately informed of the error. Four of them were hospitalized with mild flu-like symptoms and the other four returned home.

The mistake would have been made because each vial contains 5 doses of vaccine, with which five different people must be vaccinated.

Before the start of the vaccination campaign, the producers BioNTech and Pfizer assured that there are no serious side effects in cases of overdose with the COVID vaccine.

In fact, the overdose also does not appear to have had serious health consequences at this stage of the eight employees. They work out of a home in Stralsund, a town in northeastern Germany, and are among the priority categories for administering the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine, an operation that began Saturday in Germany.

“I deeply regret this incident,” said the district administrator, assuring it was “human error.”

The vaccine, to be administered in two 0.3 ml increments every 2-3 weeks, is delivered in an ampoule, the contents of which provide, after dilution, five doses. A spokeswoman for the German Health Ministry said on Monday that these vials could provide up to six doses, as they contain a “slight surplus” that allows a sixth syringe to be filled to inject the vaccine.

The Ministry of Health has communicated this to the Länder, which are responsible for vaccination in Germany, but the government of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel has asked the health authorities not to use “in any case” the leftover vaccine in several vials to make another dose. informs Agerpres.
