This is melatonin, a natural hormone synthesized by the body, but can also be taken from supplements and “may be a potential drug” to treat coronavirus infection.

In addition, COVID suspects can take melatonin, which is included in medical prescriptions, along with vitamin C and D supplements, says the doctor, showing a prescription from a hospital in the capital.

“Melatonin, an aid in the treatment of COVID

Two studies published in October and November 2020 show that melatonin may be a potential drug in the prevention and treatment of coronavirus infection.

The first study conducted in New York by Columbia University Irving Medical Center states that melatonin is associated with a high degree of survival in patients infected with SARS-CoV2 and intubated.

Melatonin, a man that regulates sleep and can be taken as a food supplement

The second study, published in the journal PLOS Biology, is an analysis by the Lerner Research Institute affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic United States that compares 34 potential drugs for the treatment of COVID-19, with melatonin being one of the most promising.

Melatonin is a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and is synthesized in both humans and animals during sleep. On the market there is synthetic melatonin, which can be taken in the form of supplements, but also functional foods: yogurt with melatonin.

Melatonin is already known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, and its effectiveness was demonstrated in a clinical study published in June 2020 in the Journal of Pineal Research: COVID-19 infection causes a severe septic response, which can decrease with melatonin treatment.

Dr. Bilic: COVID suspects can also take melatonin, which is included in preventive prescriptions

German researchers, in turn, have published in the journal Melatonin Research extensive material on the mechanisms by which melatonin exerts a protective effect in respiratory diseases, making it useful in the treatment of COVID-19.

Even in the case of convalescent patients after a coronavirus infection, who suffer from insomnia for a long period of several weeks, melatonin is an effective remedy.

COVID suspects can also use melatonin, which is included in preventive prescriptions, along with vitamin C and D supplements (see photo).

Whether you take it from a pill or a yogurt, it is important to know that melatonin is a friend to your health and peace, “wrote Dr. Mihalea Bilic, on her Facebook page.
