The nutritionist Mihaela Bilic affirms that honey is fatter than sugar, showing that it has some molecules that our body absorbs without consuming energy.

However, the advantage of honey over sugar is its greater sweetening power, so we have to use a small amount. Specifically, explains the doctor, a teaspoon of honey sweetens as much as a teaspoon of sugar.

“Beyond the myths about honey in terms of health, I would like to draw your attention to its impact on the figure. Honey is a disaccharide with the same composition as sugar, that is, it contains glucose and fructose molecules. If in the structure of sugar these molecules are linked together, in the case of honey they are free, so our body absorbs them without any energy consumption. If sugar requires a minimum metabolic effort to break down disaccharides into monosaccharides, in the case of honey, the hydrolysis between glucose and fructose molecules is already carried out by bees ”, explains Mihaela Bilic.

– 1 teaspoon of sugar = 4-5 grams = 16-20 calories
– 1 teaspoon of honey = 8-10 grams = 25-30 calories
