Dr. Herdea: “We don’t think we can get meningitis if we do something like that!” A trivial gesture leads to disaster – we’ve all made mistakes at least once

There is a disease that is wreaking havoc in children and adolescents. It is enough to make a banal gesture for the outcome to be tragic.

How many children and adolescents do not drink water from the same bottle? How many do not eat the same sandwich? Dr. Valeria Herdea spoke to us about the dangers behind these banal habits.

“We need to know what meningitis is. It is an aggressive disease, a disease that has a slow onset. First your head hurts, you have a fever, your general condition changes. Then a gallop begins and, in six or eight hours, you may have, at the level of the body, what we call small, brown, purplish spots that, in fact, signify suffusions.

Beware: it is transmitted in an airborne way like any other virus. We don’t think we can get meningitis. Things are so serious and evolving so fast that we just find that this infection clears up very quickly. Attention to the age group 1-5 years, attention to adolescents, attention to crowds of children. One of them may be a carrier and the other may be exhausted, simply making a longer intellectual effort or the diet is not always good. There is also the risky behavior of adolescents: they kiss, they eat the same snack, they drink from the same bottle, they kiss. We can get meningitis very easily, ”said Dr. Valeria Herdea.
