Independent MP Adrian Dohotaru (former USR member) presented a bill on Friday proposing the postponement of parliamentary elections until March 2021. Parliamentary sources told HotNews.ro that the project is conceived and worked on by PSD. The stakes in postponing the parliamentary elections are huge for the Social Democrats, who calculate that postponing the parliamentary elections by three months will be in their favor.

According to sources at HotNews.ro, the Social Democrats have made calculations and a possible postponement of the parliamentary elections for three months will help them get a better score. More precisely, PSD is based on the fact that the government’s decisions not to increase children’s pensions and allowances, as well as the economic measures to be taken in the next period, will be negatively reflected in the spring of PNL. Thus, PSD is betting that it could get a better score in the spring parliamentary elections.

The PSD discussed the possibility of presenting a bill proposing the postponement of the parliamentary elections.

The Social Democrats have been waiting for a decision from the Constitutional Court on an appeal against a bill that states that Parliament is the one that sets the date of parliamentary elections. The bill was challenged by the Government in the Constitutional Court, and a few days ago, the CCR judges rejected the notification and say that Parliament is the one that sets the date of the elections.

The law is currently on the table of President Klaus Iohannis, and he has the leverage to block its enactment.

In this context, the independent deputy Adrian Dohotaru known in Parliament for his relations with the PSD presented a bill on Friday that proposes the postponement of the parliamentary elections until March 2021.

The bill was presented to the Senate just one day after PSD president Marcel Ciolacu told Antena3 that in the context of the coronavirus epidemic if the postponement of parliamentary elections in Parliament is proposed, the PSD will support this proposal and will vote to postpone the election.
