Deputy Prime Minister Raluca Turcan declared, this Thursday, in Realitatea Plus, that cutting the salaries of public servants is a measure of which she is not aware but that sounds familiar “from the PSD-ist propaganda manual.” The deputy prime minister’s statement comes after the NBR’s chief economist advanced a proposal on Thursday to cut public servants’ salaries by 20%.

“I am not aware of a process in which we cut the salaries of public servants, but it sounds familiar to me because of the PSD propaganda manual that attempts to collect votes by blocking government actions, giving a controversial message and misinforming. It is the old communist propaganda through manipulation, ”declared Raluca Turcan.

The chief economist of the National Bank of Romania (BNR), Valentin Lazea, said on Thursday that cutting budget salaries by 20% and reducing working hours to four days a week in the public system are solutions to reduce the budget deficit in 2021. He said that the wage freeze would be insufficient to solve the problem.

Subsequently, the spokesman for the National Bank of Romania (BNR), Dan Suciu, stated that the measure is not an official proposal from the Central Bank and that Valentin Lazea does not decide how to reduce the budget deficit.
