Borussia Monchengladbach’s Karim Benzema double sent Real Madrid to the next round of the UEFA Champions League, first in Group B. To qualify for the round of 16, the German team needed a draw in the other match, Inter – Shakhtar Donetsk.
After the final whistle of the match in the Spanish capital, all the ‘Gladbach players gathered around the substitute bench to watch the last minutes of the match on Giuseppe Meazza. The final result, 0-0, caused joy among the Germans. Borussia finished in a draw with Shakhtar, but will play matchday eight of the UEFA Champions League, thanks to the advantage obtained in direct matches.
