Three titles in a row in Romania and two classifications in the Europa League groups, of which in a CFR Cluj reached round 16 of the competition, are the performances that Dan Petrescu leaves “legacy” in Cluj for Edi Iordănescu (42 years ), his successor in the bank of Gruia. Cluj-Napoca officials did not want to allow Dan Petrescu to simply leave Cluj, after his second term at the CFR ended.

Therefore, Dan Petrescu will be declared an honorary citizen of Cluj, after serving at the highest level with CFR. For his achievements, “Bursucul” will receive the title of honorary citizen from the mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, December 8 and can be viewed online in the Zoom apps.

Dan Petrescu will be an honorary citizen of Cluj! “Bursucul” broke the contract with CFR, after three years in Gruia

Arriving at CFR Cluj in the summer of 2017, Dan Petrescu put the “railway” club back on the first map of Romanian football. With the Romanian coach at the helm, CFR Cluj returned to acting nationally and internationally, winning three titles in a row, a unique achievement for the Gruia team. However, he left at the end of 2020, after he could no longer resist the series of poor results recorded by his students.

He was replaced by Edi Iordănescu, who began his tenure with a 2-0 victory over Poli Iaşi. Edi Iordănescu is not on her first adventure in Gruia either. The coach also coached CFR in 2018, for a short period. Anghel Iordănescu’s son then resisted three matches on the bench in Gruia, after being eliminated by Malmo from the Champions League preliminaries.

Now Edi Iordănescu has agreed to take Dan Petrescu’s place and is looking forward to a longer term.

On Dan Petrescu, Telekom Sport wrote exclusively that he has two offers, one from Celtic and one from Al Nassr, but information emerged that Ludogorets, the Romanian team Keşeru, Moţi and Dragoş Grigore are also looking for him. It remains to be seen who will be the next “SuperDan” team, given that, upon leaving CFR, he announced that he wants a mini-vacation with his family to have fun.
