COVID balance on the first day of the year: almost 4,000 new cases and 74 deaths in the last 24 hours | Freedom

To date, on January 1, 636,201 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania since the start of the pandemic.

Of these, 3,938 cases were reported only in the last 24 hours, after 15,953 tests: 10,272 tests based on the case definition and medical protocol and 5,681 on request.

Most of the cases were registered in Bucharest (435), followed by the capital by the counties of Iași (238) and Ilfov (206). The highest incidence of cases (4.65 infected persons per thousand inhabitants) is found in Ilfov county, followed by Bucharest (3.85), Timiș (3.36) and Cluj (3.17). These are the only ones left in the red dash.

74 deaths in the last 24 hours

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 15,841 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Of these, 74 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours alone. There are 48 men and 26 women.

Of these, one death was recorded in the age category 30 to 39 years, 4 deaths, in the age category 50 to 59 years, 25 deaths, in the age category 60 to 69 years, 25 deaths, in the age category 70-79 years and 19 deaths, in the category of over 80 years.

8,734 patients infected with the virus are currently hospitalized in the COVID departments of Romanian hospitals. Of these, 1,111 patients are in serious condition in Intensive Care.

From the first case in Romania until now, 566,365 patients have been declared cured.
