A priest from Satu Mare, who died of Covid-19, was buried by another family after a mess at the Carei Hospital morgue, writes presasm.ro.

The priest Ioan Panusciac, who served in a church in the commune of Doba, Satu Mare, died this week, at the age of 53. He had a coronavirus and had been hospitalized with pneumonia at Carei Hospital. Family members went to collect the body on Friday, but learned that it had already been handed over to another family.

According to the hospital manager, Elisabeta Racz, the error occurred after the morgue’s refrigeration system broke and all the bodies were removed until the problems were resolved. When the bodies were returned to the refrigerator, an employee allegedly mistook the labels.

On Thursday, a woman’s nephew went to the Carei Hospital morgue to recognize her deceased grandmother and said he would later send a funeral home to collect the body. Meanwhile, the labels were reversed, the funeral home received the priest’s body instead of the woman’s.

On Friday morning, the priest’s family went to collect the body, but when the examination was carried out, the relatives saw the woman’s body. Relatives of the priest discovered that he was buried Thursday.

Father Ioan Panusciac was to be buried on Friday. Now it will be exhumed and reburied in the proper place.
