COMMENT Sorin Avram: Norway – Romania 4-0. We fans are guilty

It is said that all Romanians are good at soccer and politics. Right, just the Romanian on the sidelines, not the one on the field. This can be seen every day on the political scene when Romanian teams play in European competitions or when the National Team plays in official matches.

Did I miss the European with Iceland? That’s it, life goes on, says Hagi senior, but we are trying to qualify for the World Cup. And since Norway is not Iceland, and no match is like another, according to senior Hagi himself, he was looking forward to the match in Oslo. Because, isn’t it, in the words of someone other than Hagi senior, hope dies in the end.

For the match with Norway, coach Mirel Rădoi, the only coach of the 20 million with whom the Romanian Football Federation has a contract, changed seven of the players with whom he had approached the match in Iceland. And all in vain.

However, what claims can you have of a team whose captain is a substitute for their club’s team, even if that club is called AC Milan, which, let’s not forget, however, is no longer the Milan that enchants the world of football with so many? years ago. What claims can you have in the conditions that Romania goes on the attack with a top that is legitimized by any team in the second English league, and the striker of the opposing team is the star of Borussia Dortmund? How can you be hopeful when you have a midfielder on the field who has run away from a named team in the Netherlands and has little left and is sent to the reserve bench to his modest new Serie A team? And how can you expect miracles from some guys who go from a weak championship to a very weak one like the one in Romania?

We must be satisfied that Norway beat us only 4-0 in the Nations League.

Come on, it’s possible, let’s go with the tie, let’s go, they also have two legs, let’s go Romania, let’s go tricolor! But it is not possible. One is desire and the other is possibility. The players of the Romanian soccer team are not guilty. We are the culprits, the fans, the ones who believe that a successful trick in the national championship and a spectacular goal by Hagi junior in the modest Scottish championship means that we can have claims for the National Team to have results.

The games with Iceland and Norway showed that we have to adapt our expectations and stop dreaming of memorable matches and sensational standings. In a country where sports classes in schools are “and others” and where the state does not invest in sports infrastructure and in children’s and youth clubs, says Hagi senior, we cannot have expectations. Nor can we have expectations because football has been captured by a clique of incompetents whose main concern is to make money at any cost.

Mirel Rădoi and the players are not guilty. We don’t have other players and no matter who the coach is, I don’t think more can be done. We are the culprits, the fans, who dream too much. Just as we dream of having a political class with common sense, an efficient health system and a decent education. For now, sadly, that’s all that can be done. And we have to understand that. However, let’s go Romania!
