In the 65 years since countries submitted their Oscar nominations, only three documentaries had received International Film nominations. Collective will be, in 2021, the fourth documentary in history to fight, at International Film, for a gold statuette.

We are attending, as The New York Times wrote, the most unpredictable edition of the Oscars yet, due to the pandemic. The announcement of the nomination, following the election of thousands of Oscar voters from more than 90 countries, is, in many ways, historical for Romania.

Impressive names of the director, such as Andrei Ujică, Lucian Pintilie, Nae Caranfil, Adina Pintilie, Cristi Mungiu, Cristi Puiu, Corneliu Porumboiu or Radu Jude, also see his work crowned because the international press has realized that all his films, especially that of the new wave, created the perception of a film school and a social reality “from which Colectiv came out, overwhelmingly, like a blow.”

And last but not least, this is the first time that a Romanian newspaper and the investigations of the journalists here receive such recognition, at a global elite level, that, in general, only fiction films, such as Spotlight, reached. .

We are talking about a documentary that does not stop at the Colectiv drama. In the best international movie, Another Round, it’s great. In this category we have to keep the fists of our film, but in the documentary I think it is one of the favorites.
