Romania faces, on Wednesday, an absolute peak of diseases, from the beginning of the health crisis until now. 1,713 new cases.
It will be a month on the edge, doctors warn, in the context in which school started. Then comes the cold season, in which we all wonder if we have a cold, flu, or Covid-19. The symptoms are similar and can scare us, so the testing centers will be razed.
Negative disease record
The day arrived with a new negative history of illness: 1,713 people were diagnosed with Sars-Cov-2 in just 24 hours.
In the same period, 49 deaths were recorded and 471 patients are currently hospitalized in intensive care units.
September will be like a test that will show us all what we have understood so far about this pandemic. Authorities expect the number of cases to increase after the schools open.
Prof. Dr. Adrian Streinu Cercel: “This virus travels with the respective aerosols at 7 m / s. If someone intends to flee from it, they will not succeed. If you use the mask correctly on your face, you will be protected. From an infected person in three series of four days we will have around 40 infected people. Only after 2022, in real terms, will we be able to speak of a significant decrease in the number of Sars-Cov-2 infections “.
If we do not take into account the preventive measures in the cold season, the health system could be overwhelmed. In addition to those with coronavirus, those with respiratory viruses or flu will end up in health facilities.
Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiţă: “All the premises are created to increase the transmission from one person to another. People will spend more time indoors, in crowded spaces, the body’s immune response decreases, because the low temperature lowers the body’s defense mechanisms and we will be more vulnerable to respiratory infections.
How can we tell the difference between a common cold, the flu, and Covid-19?
In the case of a cold, most patients have a sore throat, runny nose, and then a cough may appear. These symptoms, accompanied by a moderate fever and headache, can last for several days.
The symptoms of the flu appear all at once: the headaches are very intense, there are muscle aches, sore throat, the cough is dry and the fever can reach 41 degrees Celsius, including chills.
On the other hand, in the case of the coronavirus, in addition to fever, dry cough and respiratory difficulties, there is also neurological damage: taste and smell disappear and digestive problems occur.
Dr. Beatrice Mahler, director of the Marius Nasta Institute: “The cyclicality of the symptoms, they return and disappear, leads us to the coronavirus. The story must be complete. We will soon make a double diagnosis when patients have fever or muscle pain. It is mandatory to have a coronavirus diagnosis, but we must also get tested for the flu. “
If they have a negative Covid test, but the image of the lungs on an X-ray or CT scan shows that the organ is affected, patients will be treated as Covid suspects and, if necessary, receive treatment.
Dr. Beatrice Mahler, director of the Marius Nasta Institute: “The cases that we had and instituted treatment indicated that the diagnosis was correct, confirmation was by positive IGM antibodies a few days after discharge.”
Another difference between the two infections is the degree of transmission. In the cold season, many people are immune to the flu because they get vaccinated. Therefore, it forms an invisible barrier to the transmission of the influenza virus. This is not the case at all when it comes to Sars-Cov-2, because we do not yet have a vaccine to act against it.
That is why physical distance and the use of a mask are essential.
Representatives of the World Health Organization are once again focusing on prevention and no longer recommend cleaning the elbows, precisely so that people do not approach a meter away. Experts say that it is enough to shake the hand of our hearts to greet our friends.
