The dear Olteanu Matei had turned 87 on October 24. She had moved 14 years ago to Piatra-Neamt, her husband’s birthplace. In fact, she was buried with military honors in the “Eternitatea” cemetery in Piatra-Neamţ, along with her husband.
In 2014, the actress was going through a terrible drama after her husband, the famous doctor Ion Matei, passed away. The two got married in 1968 and had a happy marriage. Dear Olteanu Matei, you have been married twice before.
First with an aviation officer at the age of 18, then with a diplomat when I was a student. Unfortunately, the two marriages failed due to the infidelity of their spouses, and the artist found peace in the arms of Ion Matei, who was with her for 44 years. After losing her husband, Draga Olteanu Matei declared that she would never recover from this drama and that she would have preferred to die with him to escape the suffering.
Two weeks after her death, huff.ro journalists published a letter that the actress would have left for the Romanians.
“My dear ones, when they are gone, please do not complain to me. Throughout my career I have tried to bring you joy and smiles. I was always overwhelmed by the attention you gave me and I thought you were giving me too much of what I really deserved it.
When they are gone, please remember me with the love and joy I had when I played every role, whether on the stage of the theater or in the movies.
I lived most of my life on stage, whether it was the theater scene or the movie scene in which I was acting. I don’t want you to complain to me. I love you and I value you too much. I am glad that they welcomed me into their souls and I am glad to know that I managed to bring them joy.
I am flattered by every letter I receive, I have never been interested in the prizes that organizations offer, but I considered that the most important prize I could receive were your reactions when I finished playing a play. Great great love.
Stay happy, stay healthy and thank you for every moment that you followed me.
Yours,
Dear Olteanu Matei ”.
