The biggest problem in the nuclear sector in Romania is human resources, in the conditions in which people are trained at the Cernavoda plant, then they go to other countries, Energy Minister Virgil Popescu said on Monday.

He was present in Cernavoda at the start of the vaccination campaign for Covid of the employees of the nuclear power plant, writes agerpres.ro.

“We discussed the problems that exist and how we can overcome them. We have a very big challenge: to build units 3 and 4, restructure unit 1, and the biggest challenge is human resources. We need qualified human resources and professional resources, as it is now” , the minister specified.

He recalled that the Cernavoda plant has the most efficient nuclear reactors in the world, according to an independent study published annually.

“The biggest challenge will be to provide human resources for the operation of units 1 and 2 and for the construction and operation of reactors 3 and 4. People come, they stay here, they train, training a person in the field is not simple, it takes a long time, after those who are obviously looking for something better and there are people who have left Cernavoda and are working in other countries in the nuclear sector. Popescu also said that supplying nuclear equipment is another challenge.

Regarding the Covid vaccination campaign, the minister specified that he himself was vaccinated and recommends that all Romanians do so, so that things return to normal.

According to him, 1,100 of the 1,400 employees at the plant have already signed up to get vaccinated.

“I spoke with the mayor of Cernavoda and announced a support for social investment of 5 million lei for the local community.
