And the coup comes in the middle of the election campaign for another term in the White House!
US President Donald Trump announced Thursday night that he and his wife will go into quarantine pending the results of the COVID-19 test, reports AFP.
Previously, Donald Trump had stated on Fox News that he had a test for COVID-19, but did not yet have the results, following a positive test from a close associate.
“The test came back positive,” said Donald Trump, confirming press reports from Hope Hicks, his close adviser. “I just had a test, we’ll see,” he added, adding that his wife, Melania, had also been tested.
“I will have the results tonight or tomorrow morning. As you know, I spend a lot of time with Hope, as the First Lady,” she continued.
The 31-year-old was aboard Air Force One with the US president when he flew to Cleveland, Ohio, on Tuesday to participate in the election debate face-to-face with Joe Biden.
She also went with him to Minnesota on Wednesday for a campaign rally.
Asked by AFP, Judd Deere, a spokesman for the White House, neither confirmed nor denied this information.
The spokesman said the president takes “very seriously” his health and that of “everyone who works for him.”
The President of the United States is regularly tested for COVID-19, although its exact frequency is unknown.
Employees working in the west wing are screened daily, as are White House-accredited journalists, or they travel with the president.
Hope Hicks, who has been working with Trump since 2016, is part of the president’s close circle.
After occupying the prestigious position of communications director for the White House, she left her position for a time to join the Fox group, which owns the Fox News channel, before returning to the White House.
Discreet, but highly influential behind the scenes, this former model, who worked for Ivanka Trump in New York, is widely listened to by the president, who, in fact, never expressed reservations about her.
