Experts have estimated that the 14.4-kilometer metro line will cost 986 million euros, and the duration of the 14-station line will be 11 years, announced the mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc.

In the first stage, the metro will cross part of the city and ensure a connection with the country’s largest commune, Floresti, a town that has an estimated population of about 70,000-80,000 inhabitants. Later, the line will be extended to other locations in the Cluj metropolitan area, writes Adevarul.ro.

The pre-feasibility study of the metro that will connect the city with the metropolitan area was completed, it will be approved by the Floresti commune and presented to the Government. The project will also be financed with European funds from the 2021-2027 financial year.

In Bucharest, works on highway 5 Raul Doamnei – Eroilor cost 3.2 billion lei, but the M5 highway is only 7 kilometers long, less than half the length of the Cluj metro. Thus, the price paid per kilometer in Cluj would be 15% -20% lower.

The M5 metro line, Raul Doamnei – Eroilor Section, including the Valea Ialomitei station and depot, is fully financed with external non-reimbursable funds within POS-T 2007 – 2013, POIM 2014 – 2020 (85%) and charged to the state budget%). The value of the project approved by GD no. 374/2019 is almost 3.2 billion lei. The contract was awarded to Astaldi (Italy), FCC (Spain), Delta ACM and AB Construct.

With the inauguration of this highway, the Capital reached 78 kilometers of network and 63 metro stations. Highway 5 is made up of three sections: Eroilor – Raul Doamnei, Eroilor – Iancului, respectively Iancului – Pantelimon.
