Belgium has been in total quarantine since Sunday, for a month, amid the crisis of medical staff and beds in ATI. Hospitals and testing laboratories have exceeded their capacity and the number of daily hospitalizations is doubling every eight days, reports Mediafax.

Despite being one of the richest countries and having one of the strongest health systems in Europe, the nation of 11 million people, which is home to the main institutions of the European Union and the headquarters of NATO, has the third Highest rate of coronavirus mortality worldwide (relative to population figures), it is only surpassed by San Marino and Peru, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The country is at risk of running out of available intensive care beds until the end of next week, after the number of Covid-19 patients treated in intensive care units rose from 525 on October 21 to 1,057 on Thursday.

Current restrictions

Belgium is once again at the epicenter of the pandemic and to curb the flow of hospitalizations, the authorities announced a series of restrictions on Friday.
