Negotiations for the formation of the new government stalled after nearly six hours of talks between the leaders of the PNL, USR-PLUS and UDMR, after Ludovic Orban, Dan Barna, Dacian Ciolos and Kelemen Hunor disagreed on the division in the Coalition . of the positions of Prime Minister, President of the Chamber of Deputies and President of the Senate.

The Liberals began the negotiations from a position of strength, claiming that they definitely want, in addition to the position of prime minister, also that of president of the Chamber of Deputies. The latter is also coveted by USR-PLUS for Dan Barna.

In a first phase, Ludovic Orban proposed that the negotiations be separated for the prime minister and for the heads of the two houses of Parliament, not being equivalent positions. USR-PLUS and UDMR made a common front and refused, considering this approach to be incorrect.

According to sources close to the conversations, the NLP leader assured that he has much more experience than Dan Barna and would be much more suitable for the position of president of the Chamber of Deputies.

In response, the same sources claim for HotNews.ro, Dan Barna said he agrees, but then it would be right for the prime minister position to return to USR-PLUS for Dacian Cioloș, who has more experience as a prime minister and politician than Florin Cîțu. .

The idea did not smile on the liberals who wanted the consultations in Cotroceni, PNL, USR-PLUS and UDMR to be accompanied by a coalition agreement in support of Prime Minister Florin Cîțu.

As the turn of the talks indicated, at that time, that USR-PLUS will propose Cioloș as prime minister, Ludovic Orban came up with a new solution to overcome the blockade.

The PNL leader proposed to leave open the contest for the leadership of the Chamber of Deputies, so that each party has its own candidate and for the winner to support the other party’s candidate for the Senate leadership. In addition, Orban proposed entering into an explicit support agreement, as a guarantee that the agreement would be respected.

However, the solution proposed by Orban was not supported by Barna and Kelemen. According to the cited sources, users fear an agreement that the liberals could make with the PSD so that Orban can win. In other words, an organized competition.

The talks were suspended after nearly six hours, to no avail, and will resume on Sunday.

In the end, the first round of negotiations Ludovic Orban, Dan Barna, Dacian Cioloș and Kelemen Hunor sent a joint statement in which they do not mention a word about the blockade intervened in the negotiations for the functions of prime minister and heads of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. “During the political negotiations, each party presented its point of view on the organization and functioning of the coalition,” the document reads.

Regarding the guiding program, its structure and the way in which the programs of the three political formations are harmonized have been established, advancing in a series of chapters. At the same time, the coordinates of the joint activity at the parliamentary level were agreed, which are the basis for the functioning of the majority ”, it is also specified in the statement.
